Is Helmsly available now?
Yes. Helmsly is live on the Shopify App Store and installable on any Shopify store with one click — apps.shopify.com/helmsly. The Free plan covers 50 conversations per month with every feature unlocked, so you can try it on real traffic before you ever enter a card.
How is this different from Tidio, Gorgias, or Re:amaze?
Helmsly is built specifically for Shopify, ingests your real catalog and policies (not just FAQ), and takes action — refunds, returns, cancellations — within caps you set. Pricing is flat per-conversation with hard caps, so you never get a surprise bill. Tidio and Gorgias use metered, agentic pricing that can spike unpredictably.
What does the AI need to answer my customers?
Nothing. As soon as you install, Helmsly ingests your products, pages, blog posts, and policies through the Shopify Admin API. You can also upload PDFs, DOCX, or Markdown to add anything that's not already on your store.
What happens when the AI doesn't know something?
It escalates to you. You'll see the conversation in the inbox marked "Waiting human" along with the customer's question, the context the AI retrieved, and a confidence score. You take over from there.
How is pricing different from competitors?
One conversation = one customer thread, regardless of how many messages it contains. Plans have a hard cap; we never auto-upgrade you and never charge overage fees. If you exceed the cap, the AI pauses on new conversations until next billing cycle, your existing threads keep going, and you can upgrade in one click if you want.
Is my customer data safe? Where is it stored?
Yes. We use Shopify's Protected Customer Data scope minimally — name, email, address only (we explicitly don't request phone). All data is encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM and in transit with TLS 1.3, hosted on Vercel + Neon (Postgres) in the US. We never train any AI model on your data or your customers' data.
What if Helmsly makes a mistake on a refund?
You set per-action caps in dollars and percentages. The AI cannot exceed them. Every action is logged in an append-only audit trail with actor, timestamp, and before/after metadata. You can disable any category of automation in one click and the AI will escalate instead.
Do I need to write FAQ content?
No. Most stores get useful answers immediately because Helmsly reads your existing pages and policies. If you have content the AI is missing, you can paste it in or upload a document.
Can I edit AI replies before they send?
Yes. There's a 5-minute edit window after every AI reply. You can correct tone or content, and the customer sees the corrected version without the conversation breaking.
